OUR STORY

Our commitment to corporate governance and professional leadership stems from a legacy that dates back to the establishment of the Institute of Directors (IoD). Since its founding in the United Kingdom in 1903, the IoD has focused on enhancing the quality of leadership and fostering the professional development of directors. The IoD’s mission has been to create more transparent, ethically grounded, and effective corporate governance, driving sustainable growth and achieving long-term success.

Building on the IoD’s ethos, the European Confederation of Directors’ Associations (ecoDa) was established in 2004. Its goal is to unify European corporate governance standards and strengthen international dialogue among board members. As an umbrella organization, ecoDa provides a platform for sharing best practices and experiences while collectively advocating for principles of responsible leadership across Europe.

In alignment with these values of international commitment, the Institute of Directors Hungary was founded in 2019 to make the IoD’s principles accessible in Hungary. Our mission is to provide Hungarian managers, corporate leaders, board members, business owners, and successors with a community that offers support and inspiration for adopting strategic and ethical corporate governance practices. IoD Hungary not only connects the domestic business community but also, through its international network, grants access to the latest European and global leadership trends, research, professional resources, and training opportunities.
